GET INVOLVED IN THE CONSERVATION AND MONITORING OF OUR GIRAFFE THROUGH GIRAFFESPOTTER

WHAT IS GIRAFFESPOTTER?

A photo-identification database to individually store sightings of giraffe to assist in research for conservation.

GiraffeSpotter uses photographs to analyze the pattern of each giraffe in order to distinguish between individual animals. The database is maintained and used by giraffe conservationists, biologists and managers to collect and analyze giraffe sighting data to learn more about their distribution and population numbers which helps inform conservation decisions.

HOW CAN YOU GET INVOLVED?

Assist us with giraffe conservation research by submitting photos and sighting data.

The information you submit will be used in mark-recapture studies to help SAVE these iconic animals and will assist with Africa-wide conservation projects.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

  1. Photograph the right-hand side of a giraffe
  2. Submit photo and add necessary information such as GPS location, sex and species
  3. Photo verified by researcher
