Dear Giraffe Friends,

Save Giraffes Now has supported Conservation South Luangwa’s veterinary team since 2022 to help protect the rare Thornicroft’s giraffe, only found in Zambia.  In 2025, Save Giraffes Now began also supporting the K9 unit, who dedicate their lives to tracking and detecting illegal wildlife products. We love it when animals help other animals!!

For 8 years, one of their canines, Rudi, has been fighting the good fight. He started at just two years old and continued even after being diagnosed with fibrotic myopathy, a condition affecting his hindlimbs.  Rudi never lets anything slow him down.

Now retired, Rudi is spends his days enjoying long walks, curling up in his bed, chewing on his favorite plastic bones, and greeting new visitors with an enthusiastic bark. And, of course, when the heat rises, there’s nothing he loves more than a cool, refreshing swim.

Rudi has always been known for his affectionate nature and boundless enthusiasm, endearing him to everyone who’s had the pleasure of working alongside him. After years of dedication to conservation, it’s time for Rudi to enjoy the slower pace of life – a great reward for a career spent protecting Zambia’s wildlife.

While Rudi enjoys his well-deserved retirement, Save Giraffes Now is supporting him and his handlers by paying for his food and medicine. Please consider donating to Save Giraffes Now to assist Rudi and other canines like him in Zambia while they protect their animal friends.

Sincerely,

Susan Myers
