Updates from the Field: Kenya

We are happy to some news from our work in Kenya.

As you know, in early 2022 Save Giraffes Now was approached by the Kamuthe Community Wildlife Conservancy, a community-led conservation area in Garissa County. Since then, Save Giraffes Now and Kamuthe have worked together to protect the wildlife in Garissa County in a variety of ways.

These include continuing support of their scout team, a borehole and water pan repair, and implementation and training of Earthranger. As a side note, we are proud of the fact that of all of the conservancies we work with in Kenya, Kamuthe is the only one to date that has a female scout.

Recently Kamuthe took part in a community exercise to validate its Management Plan and also submitted a draft of their proposal for “Strengthening Operational Capacity for Sustainable Conservation at Kamuthe Community Wildlife Conservancy” to the State Department of Wildlife.

In addition to putting their Management Plan into action, the Kamuthe Community scouts also took part in a tree planting exercise with Kenya Wildlife Service.

We have enjoyed our long-term partnership with Kamuthe, watching them grow as a conservancy, and look forward to their continuous and expanding endeavors to protect giraffes in Garissa County.

P.S. Congratulations to Kamuthe Manager Khalif and his family on welcoming their newest little scout!

Update on the Fundraiser:
Saving a Giraffe Hero, Mike Parkei

Mike Parkei, a Ruko Ranger, who is an amazing giraffe whisperer and was a major force in keeping the original Ruko giraffe alive while they were marooned on the island, is currently facing immense medical struggles. Together, this incredible community raised the funds Mike Parkei needs for his medical treatment in just four days! All of us at SGN, Vital Impacts, and Ami Vitale are deeply grateful to every person who donated, shared his story, sent words of encouragement, or kept Mike and his family in their thoughts.

Upcoming Event: Artwork Auction

Save Giraffes Now is happy to partner with Debra Ferrari on an art auction.  Debra is a leading, established artist whose works are collected throughout the United States and internationally. Deeply inspired by the natural world, her paintings have long told the story of why protecting wildlife matters. A portion of proceeds from the artwork sold will be going directly to Save Giraffes Now.

Don’t miss your chance to own some of this iconic artwork and support conservation as the auction ends June 11, 2026.

Support Save Giraffes Now

Save Giraffes Now has made great progress in our giraffe conservation efforts; however, there is much work left to do, and we need your help. Please join us in our fight to ensure giraffe can live freely and safely in their native Africa for generations to come. As little as $10 per month makes a huge difference!

Donate Today

As always, 100% of your donation goes directly to our projects on-the-ground in Africa.

Thank you to every single one of you who made this possible!
