Hello Giraffe Friends!

I have some AWESOME news to share with you regarding a significant giraffe translocation that SGN led which just took place in South Africa. This gorgeous (and GIANT!) male was living at a private ranch with a small herd of younger giraffe. When the owner got into financial difficulty due to the tough Covid times, he planned for hunters to come and shoot them so that he could use the land for other purposes. Save Giraffes Now heard about it and wasn’t going to let that happen. Thanks to supporters like you, the SGN team was able to quickly identify a protected reserve that would be suitable for the herd and organize the logistics of the translocation.  Below is a picture to show you how gigantic this giraffe is – the trailer in front of him is what is normally used to transport giraffe! It obviously wouldn’t work for him so he got to take the “convertible” to his new home. We are pleased to report that the mission was a success and the herd will now be able to live safely and happily for the rest of their days.
