Please join us in welcoming the newest member of the SGN team, Thapelo! He is our Director of Southern Africa Operations.
Thapelo Tsumpana Baiphethi is a youthful leader in Botswana (Southern Africa) conservation. For more than 12 years he has been actively involved in working with communities and seeking funds for the protection and conservation of endangered species including giraffes. In addition to his new role with SGN, Thapelo serves as CEO of Khama Rhino Sanctuary Trust.
In 2021/2022, Thapelo successfully led a Save Giraffes Now project in Botswana, in which a total of six giraffes were successfully relocated to Khama Rhino Sanctuary to enhance genetic diversity. Shortly after the relocation, and thanks to the care and protection of Thapelo and the Khama Rhino Sanctuary team, the new giraffe were mingling beautifully with the existing giraffe herd on the reserve.
Thapelo is very passionate about giraffes and want to see their population grow in Botswana and Africa at large.
